Newsletter 5 Summer Term 6
21st July 2010
Dear Parents and Governors
The end of term is here and tomorrow we will be saying goodbye in our Church Leavers Service at 1.15 to all our wonderful Year 6 pupils as well as Anna Scott in Year 5 who will be moving to Tidworth, Mrs Tina Wheelwright, Mrs Rosemary Davies and Mrs Christine Weston, (Mid Day Supervisor). We would like to wish all our friends who are leaving, happiness and fulfilment in their future plans.
Newsletters and Class Letters to Parents
All letters and correspondence will continue to be sent out on TUESDAYS when required. Please look at your emails or paper copies, if you request to receive these, in your child’s reading folders. We would prefer to send you your newsletter by email to save paper. Please let us know your email address if you would like us to send your letters via email and also keep us up to date with any changes of email address. Newsletters will also be displayed on the notice board opposite the office and on the school website.
Milk
If any parents would like to register with the Cool Milk Scheme, go online to www.coolmilk.com or call the freephone number 0800 321 3248. Registration forms are also available in the link corridor and on the notice board in the entrance to KS1. Children under 5 are entitled to receive free milk through this scheme. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if more information is needed.
Rub A Dub
Everyone at Derry Hill School would like to congratulate Rub-a-Dub on their outstanding Ofsted inspection and we all look forward to continuing our close links with them.
An important date for your diary for the beginning of the new academic year – Tuesday 7th September & Wednesday 8th September 3.30-5.00
Parent Curriculum Information Evenings
We are piloting a new initiative to enhance communication by keeping you informed of your child’s learning. An after school parent curriculum information presentation which will last approximately 20 minutes with a 10 minute question time, has been organised by the class teachers to share learning skills and curriculum objectives with you that your child will be covering in Terms 1 and 2. We appreciate that for many of you, you have children in different year groups so we have therefore planned the following days and time
| Tuesday 7th September | Year 5/6 – In Year 6 classroom | 3.30-4.00 |
| Tuesday 7th September | Year 4 – In Year 4 classroom | 4.00-4.30 |
| Tuesday 7th September | Year 3 – In Year 3 classroom | 4.30-5.00 |
| Wednesday 8th September | Year 1 | 3.30-4.00 |
| Wednesday 8th September | Year 2 | 4.00-4.30 |
We do hope that as many of you as possible are able to support the school in this new initiative.
If you are unable to attend your child’s’ presentation then there will be the usual communication of the curriculum coverage and curriculum newsletter available as hard copies, e mailed to you and will be posted on the school website following the meetings.

Ofsted Correspondence
Please see letter that was sent home with your child
Due to the new Ofsted framework the school will now have on the spot curriculum HMI inspections during the year. As part of these inspections, the HMI team looks at evidence of ongoing pupil progress across the school. As children’s work in their books is a main source of showing this evidence we are therefore unable to send books home at the end of the academic year. However previous work (2008-09) will be sent home with your child at the end of this term.
