Spring Term 2010 Year 4
Dear Parents,
I trust you’ve all had a good break and a chance to spend time with family and friends. We find ourselves in a new year, a new decade even, with many exciting things stretching out ahead of us, not least, a fun-packed term of learning for the children!
This term is entitled ‘All Things Chinese’. I have tried to link areas of learning together based around our links with China. We are following the basic structure of an old Geography unit of work called ‘A Village in India: Chembakoli’, which I have adapted in order to be more relevant to the children and our school’s links. We are continuing to use the ‘new’ subject areas as below: (see attached document for termly learning overview)
Knowledge and Understanding of the World encompasses science, I.C.T, history and geography skills.
Creative Development extends the children’s music, art, D.T and dance abilities.
Physical Development relates to ‘games’ and ‘P.E’.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development encompasses S.E.A.L and P.S.H.E.
A reminder about homework:
Spellings: Set on Monday and tested on Friday.
Times Tables: Set on Monday and tested on Thursday.
Weekend Homework (either Literacy or Numeracy): Set on Friday and due on the Monday.
Reading: Please hear your child read three times a week and complete their reading record with them. (Reading records are checked on Monday mornings for the previous week. Each child is working toward a certificate at the end of each term if they read to an adult three times a week, every week.)
I value your support with homework, especially reading, which forms the back bone of their writing capabilities and is vitally important. If you are unsure about any of the above, please feel free to pop in and see me on the playground, or after school.
Finally, a big thank you to all the parents who have been helping me this term in the classroom, and a reminder that if any other parents are available and interested in helping in the classroom, I am always pleased to have parent helpers to listen to children read and help with day-to-day jobs.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to a fantastic and enjoyable term.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Watkins (Year 4 teacher)
