Hello everyone
Talent show last night was spectacular with some amazing acts many never seen before. A very good night’s sleep was had by all and this morning we were all woken up by torrential rain.
Today we have just returned from a very successful market trip at Coutence and also the hypermarket. Purchases were varied and included jewellery, sweets, more and more sweets, chocolate and more chocolate and toys – surprises awaiting you all.
We have just had a delicious lunch of jacket potato, ratatouille and salad and everyone is getting ready for the afternoon’s activities of Raft building and Bushcraft. This evening we are all going rock climbing outside if weather permits or inside if too dangerous.
Weather sadly is very wet today puddles everywhere. Will let everyone know via school and pyramid of our return tomorrow.
Laundry warning – make sure you have lots of pre-wash and washing powder in – dirty clothes and bodies!
See you all tomorrow.

Hello everyone
An evening of tension and excitement last night ( Tuesday ) ended with a 2/2 draw score between Malmesbury and Derry Hill football championship. Two teams of 24 mixed players per team ( children, teachers and Acorn staff ) fought tooth and nail for possession of the ball in a nail biting game. Derry Hill narrowly avoided conceding a penalty following Mrs Staton’s hand ball however, Derry Hill’s saving grace was a spectacular save by Mrs Davies ( which most of the team missed.) Sadly the teams were defeated by a torrential downpour which drenched all team players and supporters. This downpour however, did not dampen the spirits of the players as one Derry Hill player stated – quote “ That was good, at least we don’t need showers now”
After a warm drink and cake another wonderful nights sleep was experienced by all waking up this morning to a warmish !! day.
Activities of Fencing and Archery were very exciting, learning how to lunge, parry and finishing with a conquest of skills ( no lacerations or missing limbs so far).
In preparation for tonights talent show, children are very busy sprucing up, spraying of smellies ( the first for some) and rehearsing with gusto for tonights spectacular event.

Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed your Christmas holiday with your children.
I have included some information about PE, homework, academic levels and curriculum coverage.
PE
Our PE lessons will be on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. This will mean that your child will need to bring shorts/ tracksuit, t-shirt and suitable footwear for outdoor and indoor PE.
HOMEWORK
SPELLINGS
Also each child will be given a spelling list and they will be tested on a Monday if your child is in Mrs Reed’s set or on a Friday if your child has their Literacy lessons with Mrs Wheelwright. Each list has the date of the test written on it. I would be grateful if you could support your child in their learning by helping them to practise their spellings for their test each week.
TIMETABLES
Your child will be tested on their times tables/ mental maths on a Friday morning and they will need to be able to recall ANY times table up to the 12 times table within 5 seconds. They will also listen to a CD where they will be asked to answer 20 mathematical questions on a variety of mathematical topics.
MATHS or LITERACY HOMEWORK
Mrs Wheelwright’s set
Your child will be given a piece of Maths and Literacy homework on a Friday. This homework will need to be completed and returned the following Tuesday. Please can you sign the homework diary to say that you have seen your child’s homework and please feel free to write a comment if your child needed additional assistance to achieve the set homework tasks.

READING
All of the children in Year 5 and Year 6 are competent readers. However, it is very important to continue to encourage your child to read a variety of books eg, poetry, non-fiction and fiction. Also, you could help your child by hearing them read and then asking them questions about what they have read. I would appreciate it if you would hear your child read at least 3 times a week and make a comment in their Reading Record book.
ATTAINMENT LEVELS
The Government stipulate that all Year 6 children should achieve level 4 by the time they start Secondary school.
Please do not hesitate to come in and see me if you need further explanation.
A QUICK REMINDER
The school will be open at 8.45 and the children are welcome to come in and complete their early morning activity. I will be taking the register at 8.55 and the doors will be closed at this time. Please make sure that your child is in the classroom before 8.55 so that they are not marked late in the register.
Please feel free to come and see me at anytime if there are any issues that you wish to discuss about your child.
