Safeguarding

Derry Hill Primary School is committed to the highest standards in protecting and safeguarding the children entrusted to our care.

All schools have a legal duty to work with other agencies, to safeguard children’s welfare. Safeguarding includes aspects such as anti-bullying, child protection and keeping children safe from all kinds of harm. Keeping children safe is of high importance in our school. We have an approach that ‘it could happen here’ and all staff, governors and volunteers receive regular training and updates to ensure that safeguarding is a priority in all areas of school life.

We also understand that families and carers might experience times of trauma or difficulty, that may mean they need extra support and help. We call this ‘early help’. If you feel that you would like to talk to someone in school about this, please speak to Mrs Roberts or any other member of the safeguarding team listed below.  We may be able to help with emotional and practical support and guidance, or can signpost you to other agencies who may be able to help.

Our school will support all children by:

  • Promoting a caring, safe and positive environment within the school
  • Encouraging self-esteem and self-assertiveness
  • Effectively tackling bullying and harassment
  • Promoting all aspects of the Equality Act 2010

We have an expectation that all staff and visitors to our school will behave in a way which ensures our children are safeguarded at all times. This expectation involves a duty for any safeguarding concerns to be reported.
