Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium was introduced by the government as a way of allocating fund to support low-income families who are eligible for free school meals, looked after children and those from families with parents in the Armed Forces. At Derry Hill School we strive to ensure that this money is spent in the most effective way possible by using current educational research; our knowledge of the children and discussion with families to help inform the decisions we make.
Schools are required to publish details of their allocation and how it has been spent in the previous academic year and plans for spending it within the current academic year. There is also an expectation that schools will detail the effect of this expenditure on the educational attainment of those pupils at the school in respect of whom funding was allocated.
In the 2023 to 2024 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:
- £1,455 for pupils in reception year to year 6
- Schools will also receive £2,530 for each pupil identified having left local-authority care because of 1 of the following:
- adoption
- a special guardianship order
- a child arrangements order
- a residence order
Children who have been in local-authority care for 1 day or more also attract £2,530 of pupil premium funding. Funding for these pupils is managed by the Wiltshire virtual school head (VSH).
Children eligible for Service pupil premium will attract £335 to support their pastoral needs.
